Downtown Buenos Aires

Another shot of downtown Buenos Aires

It was Christmas time in BA.

A magazine seller in BA

A flower seller in BA

A very old tree with a complicated root system.

Another random shot of the city.

The church at the entrance to BA's famous graveyard.

A city within a city built for the dead.

Another example of the extensive work done to build these graves.

A sculpture as part of a tomb.

A more modest example.

This one looked like a little church.

It's like the "streets" were made for the dead to walk around.

The Duarte Family Grave - Eve Peron was a Duarte

A plaque to Eva Peron

A second plaque to Eva Peron

A more simple example of a tomb.

Must have been a big family.

This particular one really caught my eye.

These had to be wealthy families to afford this.

Some of the statuary was impressive.

Another example of sculpture work around the tomb.

The glass made this one catch my eye.

This is what happens when Catholisism goes to extremes.

Some plant life in the midst of death.

Back on the streets of Buenos Aires.

The type of mailboxes they use in Argentina.

The Galleria Pacifica - an ELO image.

Frescos on the ceiling of a shopping mall - an ELO image.

The Oblisk that looks down upon the widest street in BA. (ELO image)

A shot I took from our hotel window.

Our accomidations at El Calaphate

Making friends with the animals on the farm.

A shot taken on the way to the glacier.

An example of how glacial ice carves the surrounding rock.

Another picture for the geologists.

The Perito Moreno Glacier.

Another glacier shot.

Erik and I at the glacier.

The sign informing us we'd reached the right place.

Where rock meets ice.

Phil On Ice.

A view of the lake and valley below us.

Phil keeping warm and sunburn free.

A beautiful example of glacial ice - an ELO image

Another ELO image of glacier ice.

Erik upon the glacier.

Our group trekking across the ice.

Part of the campsite below.

The back end of the glacier and the lake.

The top of the glacier and its afternoon snows.

Erik the Gaucho

A very nice family from Palo Alto we met at the BBQ.

I think this is called a Black-Chested Gray Eagle.

A cave we explored on our way to the Eco-Camp.

Rocks around the same cave.

Erik and I with a Giant Sloth, (now extinct.)

Lake Argentina - an ELO image.

These were all over the park, known as Guanaco.

A view of the area from the Eco-Camp.

The dining and social "dome" in the camp.

The "domes" we slept in with the park as background.
Another incredible view from the camp.

A nice coffee and chocolate maker back in town.

An example of the local architecture.

A local shop.

The main cathredal in town.

An old engine in the town square park.

A view of Punta Arenas near where we boarded the ship.

A view from a different window of the cafe.

A ship in port opposite ours.

Yet another ship in port.

The captain of the MV Australis guides the ship out of the harbor.

A tug watches as we pull away from port.

A festive greeting on our cabin door.

Our wonderfully comfortable room aboard the Australis.

The stern lounge on the 3rd floor - the smaller of the two.

The forward lounge, 4th floor. All booze and soda were included.

The observation (top) deck of the ship.

The zodiacs we used to land on different places.

Dessert the first night. The food was excellent.

A sunset photo I took underway. It's my new desktop wallpaper.

A view of a morning landing from the observation deck.

Another view of that morning landing. Incredibly beautiful place!

A view of the Australis off where we landed.

The island where we landed one morning.

A single sea lion that paid little attention to our presence.

Enjoy the scenery.

More scenery, including a glacier.

Oooooh! More scenery!

They freely let passengers onto the bridge.

Another view of the ship from the zodiac - an ELO image.

The "local" penguin population.

More penguin pictures because they're cute.

Erik took some terrific images here.

I mean, who gets tired of penguins?

One last shot of a penguin involved with some personal grooming.

Another glacier shot.

The Fried Family/Stephen, Ting and Jensen/and us - all the table-mates.

The Avenue of the Glaciers.

Avenue of the Glaciers.

Avenue of the Glaciers.

Erik and I with the glaciers as background.

A random island shot with part of the zodiac crane in the foreground.

The landing and stairs at Cape Horn.

The monument at Cape Horn.

The famous little church on the island.
